[Two wildfires were causing danger and destruction in California on Thursday]

Mandatory evacuations were ordered after a huge brush fire erupted Thursday (11/8) Newbury Park area of California.

More than 165 Ventura County firefighters were on scene after the Hill Fire broke out around 2:30 p.m West coast time, authorities said.

The fire had grown as large as 15-thousand acres, according to a Ventura County Fire spokesperson.

Mandatory evacuations were ordered for the Camarillo Springs area, along with Cal State Channel Islands and Dos Vientos.

Another fire was raging in Butte County where fire officials said tens of thousands of people fled a fast-moving wildfire, some clutching babies and pets as they abandoned vehicles and struck out on foot ahead of the flames that forced the evacuation of an entire town and destroyed hundreds of structures.

The community of Paradise in Butte County is destroyed.

Governor-elect Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency for the area.
