An issue with a high pressure gas main has affected Lawrence, North Andover and Andover. Anyone who has gas service from Columbia Gas is being told to leave their homes until further notice.

Massachusetts State Police say gas lines are currently being depressurized by the company.

There were a total of 35 fires in Andover alone. All fires have been extinguished, but at peak, 18 fires were burning at the same time. At least three people have been injured in Andover, including one firefighter and at least two civilians.

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Andover Fire Chief Michael Mansfield "I`ve been in the fire service for almost 39 years and I`ve never seen anything like this is my entire career. To sum it up, coming in to town, from a community just outside of here responding back in...it looked like Armageddon. It really did. There were billows of smoke coming from behind me in Lawrence. I could see plumes of smoke in front of me in Andover. It looked like an absolute war zone and something that I`ve never experienced in my fire service career and hopefully I don`t have to experience it ever again."
