Janis Joplin nous a quittés le 4 octobre 1970 et a, effectivement, brûlé la vie par les deux bouts. Sa carrière, très courte, s’étalant essentiellement entre 1966 et 1970, laissera une fameuse emprunte dans l’histoire du rock. Sa voix inimitable, cette véritable " possession " du blues et son talent sans limite font d’elle une des icônes majeurs de l’histoire du rock. Malheureusement, elle fait partie du tristement célèbre " Club des 27 ", c'est-à-dire de ces rocks stars qui nous ont quittés, bien trop tôt, à l’âge de 27 ans, aux côtés de Robert Johnson, Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain et plus récemment Amy Winehouse. Cette année sera une année de commémoration de la carrière de Janis Joplin puisque Sony sortira notamment un live inédit enregistré en 1968 avec le groupe Big Brother & The Holding Company (" Live at the Carousel Ballroom 1968 ") ainsi qu’une réédition de l’album solo " Pearl " (" Pearl Sessions ").
